Is Cheryl Burke Retiring After Dancing With The Stars Season 31: She Has Talked About Retiring From ‘DWTS’ In The Past
Burke has been contemplating retirement from the competitive series since 2020. She addressed it multiple times on her previous Pretty Messed Up podcast, which she co-hosted with AJ McLean and Rene Elizondo. Burke said in November 2020 that she was frustrated and questioned whether it was “still the show [she] signed up for.”
Burke mentioned retirement in another interview with Elizabeth Vargas’ podcast Heart of the Matter. Burke stated in October 2021, “I’ve been dealing with personal concerns, and everything has been very unclear.” “I am 37 years old… but there’s the question of “how long can I live as a dancer?”
Why Retirement Might Be In The Cards For Cheryl Burke Now
The DWTS pro stated on the Burke in the Game episode airing on October 16 that many people have asked her if season 31 will be her last. “I believe that this is my final season as a dancer, therefore the answer to that question is probably yes.”
Burke claims that at this time, her body is asking her to quit dancing. Burke also mentioned that her contract was up and that she should “see what’s next” in terms of her career. Burke is also aware that several dancers are striving for her position. She believes that since retirement is unavoidable, it would be “unfair” to stay on for one more season.
Cheryl Burke Still Wants To Be Involved In Dancing With The Stars
Burke would like to be a part of the Dancing with the Stars family once she retires. She has no idea what that will look like.
“I’ve said before that I was going to stop, and I always come back,” she explained, adding:
“I guess it’s difficult to say goodbye to a show and a family I’ve only known in Los Angeles.” I truly hope the higher-ups see my worth on Dancing with the Stars. “I have plenty to contribute.”
‘Burke in the Game,’ Cheryl Burke
In the end, Burke has little control over whether or how she returns to the show in a different capacity. Burke would prefer to join the cast as a judge or host, however he wouldn’t want to take anyone’s existing position.
Retirement Isn’t A ‘For Sure Decision’ At This Point
Burke concluded the episode by saying: “I did say likely. I didn’t say this was a for sure decision. Take what I say lightly, but I have never felt so much peace in my heart with this decision than I do now. This decision’s not made from fear or from anger or disappointment from how the season turned out; this has truly been a long time coming for me.”
