What is Twitch?

Twitch is a live-streaming platform where users are able to stream what they are doing in real-time.

Twitch streamers can “broadcast” their gameplay or activity by sharing their screens with subscribers or fans who can hear and watch them play live.

Typically gamers use Twitch to show other users tricks and tips on how to complete levels.

However, Twitch can be used by anyone interested in lifestyle casting about subjects like music or food.

Streams can last anywhere from 60-seconds to eight-hours or longer.

The platform was officially launched in 2011 and since then has amassed millions of users.

How do I set up a Twitch account?

It’s easy – you just need to set up an account on the Sign Up page on the Twitch website.

All you need is your email address and date of birth.

You can sign up here.

Is Twitch free?

There are both free and paid versions of Twitch, with paid tiers removing ads and giving users access to more robust social, streaming, and storage features.

How old do you have to be on Twitch and is it safe for kids?

Twitch is not available to kids under the age of 13.

Young people between the ages of 13 and 18 are only allowed to use Twitch if their parent or guardian agrees to Twitch’s terms of service.

These terms of service can be found here.

Unlike YouTube, Kids Twitch does not provide any parental controls and does not have tools with which parents can limit viewing time.

Twitch streamers who believe their content is inappropriate to kids can enable content warnings.

If parents allow their children to use Twitch there is a PIN function which works as secondary password.

There are also privacy features on accounts that can disable messages and “whispers” from strangers.

A “whisper” is a live-chat with a specific user separate from the global chat where fans chat.
