MILLIONS of customers will have to pay more for broadband and TV bills when Sky hikes prices this year.

The telecoms giant said the average rise will be £43 a year – we explain which services will be more expensive and how much you’ll pay.

TV and internet prices will change from April 1 and mobile and landline charges will go up from May 1.

You’ll see the television and broadband subscription changes in your April bill, which you can check online 14 days before it’s due.

The first payment with the price changes will be taken on your usual billing date.

The company is writing to all affected customers to let them know about the changes and you should be contacted be March 24.

If you’re vulnerable or struggling with bill payments you should contact Sky’s customer support team.

Can I leave the contract if I’m not happy with the price rise?

You might be considering switching to a different company to avoid price rises.

But if you leave mid-contract, you might be hit with a fee.

The rules are different depending on what type of contract you have.

TV customers on a 12 or 18 month minimum term contract won’t be charged higher prices in the first 60 days.

Sky has also pledged not to increase the standard price of your package more than once in every 12 month period.

The rise should not be more than 10%, or higher than the UK retail price increase.

If any of those regulations are broken, you may be able to switch without paying a fee.

Sky said it will contact broadband and phone customers if they’re eligible to leave their contracts.

We’ve asked the company for more information on who can quit, and we’ll update this article when we have more details.

Make sure you look at your contract in depth before you make a decision to avoid being hit with unexpected costs.

If you do decide to leave Sky, you can call the company on 03448244450 or give notice by email, instant message or letter.

Sky will cancel your membership straight away if you cancel over the phone or messenger.

But you’ll have to verify your account on the phone if you quit over email or letter.

I’m on a special offer – what do the changes mean for me?

The new prices are for standard contracts only, so shouldn’t impact you if you’re on the special offer.

If the deal you’re on promises you a fixed price for the duration, you’ll continue to pay that amount until the end of the offer.

If you’re getting a percentage discount as part of a special offer, that will be applied to the new price.

Once the offer is over, you’ll have to pay the new, higher tariffs.

Sky isn’t the only company hiking prices – other subscriptions including Disney+ are also set to get more expensive.
