WHATSAPP users have been left baffled by a redesign that has replaced blue and red icons for ‘ugly’ green ones.
But the colour swap is only visible to some users.
The WhatsApp design for Android handsets has always had green icons, whereas the iPhone WhatsApp design has traditionally had blue ones.
Now even iPhone owners are seeing green icons inside their WhatsApp on iOS.
iPhone users reported seeing green instead of blue several months ago, but it appears the colours have swapped for other users more recently.

In a Reddit post four months ago, WhatsApp users shared equal parts confusion and disgust at the new green colour that graced their screens.

One user, who described the shade as “ugly”, asked: “Omg is WhatsApp taking revenge or something??”
Another wrote: “In a blink of an eye [it] went from regular blue/red notification icons, to green and black. Wtf?! It’s disturbing…”
Last night, WhatsApp users flooded X (formerly Twitter) citing the same issue with the new green icons in their messenger app.
“Um excuse me why is WhatsApp green,” asked one X user, in a now-viral tweet.

Another X user commented: “Oh good I thought I was going crazy.
“I don’t like it, it’s making me feel like I can’t focus.”
A second commenter wrote: “I’m not sure why but mine has been green since last year.”
It’s unclear exactly why the colour swap is only visible to a selection of WhatsApp users.
But onlookers believe Meta might be working on a brand new app design behind-the-scenes.
The Sun has contacted Meta for comment.
