The Meta-owned texting app is wildly popular, used by billions of people every year.

That means WhatsApp has to carefully test new features before rolling them out – or it could cause chaos.

Tech sleuths at WABetaInfo dig into the “beta test” version of WhatsApp regularly to uncover upcoming changes.

And there are some big ones lined up.

New WhatsApp changes

Here are the six big changes in development at WhatsApp:

  • A new section to view past group participants
  • An in-chat notification when someone leaves a group that only group admins can see
  • Emoji reactions for WhatsApp Status with a selection of eight quick-tap icons
  • A tweaked context menu on WhatsApp for Windows with spelling action included
  • A new security feature called “login approval” that adds an optional extra safety layer
  • Phone number sharing toggle for members of a WhatsApp Community

The bad news is that we don’t know exactly when these updates will roll out.

Some could take days, weeks or even months.

And it’s possible that WhatsApp decides one of the features doesn’t work well and scraps it entirely.

If you want to try the latest WhatsApp features first, you can join the app beta.
