PRICES at the “UK’s cheapest petrol station” have dropped even further – to more than 20p a litre less than the national average.
The price of petrol at the Shell filling station in rural Devon is now 164.9p a litre, compared with the national average of 190.65p, according to the RAC fuel watch.
Drivers rushed to the garage earlier this week after spotting petrol on sale for 169.9p – but the outlet has now lowered its prices even more.
It means drivers in the area can fill up their tank for just under £100.
The filling station at Trago Mills department store in Newton Abbot is also selling diesel at 179.9p, compared to a national average of 198.42p
The RAC said: “We monitor both wholesale and retail fuel prices daily, including those at the UK’s supermarkets and urge retailers to pass on cost savings to motorists when they can be made.”
The UK’s fuel prices have been on the rise due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has caused oil prices to soar.
Most of Europe relies on Russia’s oil and gas reserves for its own supply, however leaders have pledged to ban oil imports to punish Moscow which has seen prices skyrocket due to an increased global demand.

Petrol stations will often cut prices based on competition in the local area.
Luke Bodset, the AA’s fuel price spokesman, said some forecourts have “seized the competitive advantage” of lowering their prices.
He said: “Prior to the pandemic, the ‘cost-cutter’ supermarkets would race to announce pump price reductions in line with falls of the wholesale cost.
“That just doesn’t happen now.
“However, there are some independent fuel stations that are charging lower prices that are not only awesome, but where the rest of the fuel trade should be heading.”
Motorists queued to top up their tanks at a Tesco petrol station in Cambridgeshire last month after fuel was spotted at just 168.9p a litre.
