PLUSNET broadband was down for hundreds of customers this morning.

At its peak, almost 500 people complained about the internet outage on Down Detector.

The issues were mostly located around London, though there were reported problems in Glasgow, plus a scatter of other areas were affected too.

Problems began at midnight last night before seemingly being resolved, just as another wave of complaints came in around 5am today.

When the issues picked back up again over 200 people were complaining of the outage, that number is now up to 474 by 8am.

The outage has now been resolved with customers now back online, though 50% of complaints reported this morning were from customers suffering landline internet issues.

Another 47% said they experienced a total blackout of services from the provider at the time.

A Plusnet spokesperson said: “‘For a short time this morning, a small number of customers were experiencing problems connecting to their broadband service.

“We worked quickly to fix this and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience”.

Some Plusnet customers took to Twitter first thing, to air their frustrations with the outage.

One Twitter user said: “Worth noting that, according to the tweets, Plusnet have been having issues since at least 1am and not a single overnight update from them, not just the last ten minutes.”

Another said: “Plusnet, you might want to wake up your infra team. Looks like a LOT of your customers are lacking internet (blue light, no internet).”

Down Detector notes that the last time customers experienced issues with Plusnet was September 2, and before that on August 27 and 25, problems were reported too.

The last time we spotted a major fault with the service though, was back in 2019, as angry Brits slammed the internet for not working in another “total blackout”.

The internet provider is owned by BT and serves around 750,000 customers across the UK as of 2013.

Plusnet’s issues come as a host of other providers have seen similar problems as of late, frustrating those working from home, or attempting to stream while taking a day off.

Sky customers were furious as their internet STILL wasn’t working at the beginning of the month.

Plus a Virgin Media outage caused chaos for hundreds in July who were working from home.

How do I contact Plusnet and can I get compensation?

If you’re suffering issues with your internet then you could be entitled to compensation.

You’ll need to make sure you report the outage so your provider is aware of the problem, but then you will likely be entitled to it automatically.

That’s as it is under the Automatic Compensation Scheme with parent company BT, which means broadband and landline customers get their money back from their provider when things go wrong.

But the way it works is that the outage has to have been ongoing for two days before your provider will then pay out £8 for every day it’s still down.

For complaints regarding home phone and broadband, you can call Plusnet on 0800 432 0200.
