Tesco shoppers go wild for new sandwich flavour which is ‘the next best thing to being down the caff’

TESCO has gone “greasy spoon caff” by serving up a limited edition ham, egg and chips sandwich.

The supermarket’s latest sarnie, filled with the classic British favourite, hit shelves this week priced at £3.

It features white bread packed with beechwood-smoked ham, egg mayo, salt and vinegar fries and ketchup.

Shoppers went wild for it online, with one commenting: “I’m no fan of supermarket sandwiches, but I’m on a mission to get one of these now.”

Another said: “It’s the next best thing to being down the caff. It tasted great! Have it with builder’s tea!”

Others turned their noses up at the thought of cold potatoes, adding: “Who thought this would be a good combo?”

The 421-calorie butty contains over a quarter of the daily allowance of salt (1.65g) and nearly a fifth of recommended fat (13.1g).

It is also available in all stores as part of a £3.40 Clubcard meal deal.

Tesco sandwich creator Sarah Bryer said: “We think it could go on to become a breakfast classic.

“We know how well loved the chip butty is with the nation, plus we have seen a massive surge of people admitting their guilty pleasure of a crisp sandwich on social media, combined with British pub favourite ham, egg and chips.

“The mini salt and vinegar fries give a crunch to the Beechwood smoked ham and chunky, rich, egg mayonnaise.”

The sarnie is part of a new “global cuisine” range, which includes a Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Wrap and a Korean Inspired Spicy Gochujang Chicken Sub.
