TESCO is putting up the price of its meal deals – unless you have a Clubcard.

The sandwich, snack and drink lunch combo will cost £3.50, or £3 if you’re a member of its loyalty scheme.

Tesco's meal deals will now be part of Clubcard prices

The new prices will come in from Monday (February 28) at all Tesco stores.

The Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme offers points that can be redeemed through money off vouchers in store, or other places like restaurants and holiday parks.

Tesco shoppers with a Clubcard can also save up to 50% off products in store with Clubcard Prices.

It’s the first time that the meal deal will be offered with these lower deal prices.

It means the £3 price tag for the three items will stay the same if you have a Clubcard.

But if you don’t have one you’ll pay 50p more – the first meal deal price rise in 10 years.

Tesco’s lunch meal deal still compares favourably with those offered by other shops, despite the higher price for some.

For example, Sainsbury’s meal deal is now priced at £3.50 after a rise last year and Boots’ at £3.39, or £3.99 in London.

Co-op’s meal deal is priced at £3.75 “or less” on its website, while at posh supermarkets Waitrose and Marks and Spencer, the combos cost £5.

At Asda the meal deal is not a set price and instead is a 3 for 2 offer where the cheapest item is free, so the price you pay will depend on the items you get.

Tesco meal deals will work out cheaper than if you bought each item separately.

Exactly how much you can save on the full price will depend on the products – there are hundreds of food and drink combinations to choose from.

The priciest main item we spotted on the Tesco website is the gluten free chicken and bacon mayo sandwich for £2.80.

The Naked tropical smoothie is £2.36 and the most expensive drink you can get in the deal, while for a snack there are several items costing the most at £1, including a Soreen snack pack and a Peperami.

That would add up to £6.16 without the deal.

If you’re a Tesco Clubcard holder you can get the lot for £3 – a saving of £3.13.

Without a Clubcard you’ll still save money, but it will be £2.66.

It’s free to get a Clubcard and you can sign up online. Around 20million people in the UK already have one.

You can sign up to the Clubcard scheme online or instore.

As well as Clubcard prices you can earn points every time you shop that can later be exchanged for money-off vouchers.

Clubcard prices were first introduced in 2019, but an investigation by The Sun last year found that the prices offered were not always the cheapest deal available.

For a limited time Tesco is also adding hot drinks to the meal deal.

You’ll be able to choose a Costa hot drink at 2,000 Tesco stores which have the machines for 12 weeks from next Monday too.

A hot drink will usually set you back between £1.75 and £2.85, depending on which drink you choose.

If you choose the priciest hot drink you’ll be saving the most versus the normal price.

With the priciest main and snack from above and the hot drink, instead of Naked tropical smoothie, you’d pay £6.65 full price and save £3.65 as a Clubcard holder or £3.15 without.
