And two hours later the number of reported outages with the app and website had reached 2,973.

The issue seems to have been sorted around 8.30pm.

That didn’t stop customers taking to Twitter to vent their rage.

Tesco, your website isn’t working can’t load any pages and can’t login. Same error message,” one shopper posted.

Another customer wrote: “And how long will this take to fix? I’ve just gone on to amend my order for tomorrow, which as a single parent with no car is very much needed, and obviously can’t. I shan’t be happy if I can’t sort it this evening!”

“Tesco, what is happening with your website, you say it was broken then mended. Can’t get on to amend my order for tomorrow, not good enough,” shared a second.

Meanwhile, a third shopper shared screen shots of error messages and tweeted: “Tesco, any idea when the site will be up and working again?”

Agnieszka said: “When will your app and website be working? Delivery tomorrow and need to finish my order!”

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We have fixed a technical issue that impacted some of our customers using our website and app this evening. We are sorry for any inconvenience this caused.”

Tesco’s app and website went down in June, leaving hundreds of customers unable to complete their shopping.

Over 500 complaints had been logged on outage detection site Downdetector.

The supermarket giant was made quickly aware of problems and apologised to shoppers for the inconvenience.
