But timing is everything and hitting the annual baby sales right now could save you some serious future spending.

ALDI: The huge annual baby event kicks off today with prices starting at a super-low 69p (for baby shampoo) but it’s the Ickle Bubba 2-in-1 rocker and seat (online only) for £49.99, that caught my eye. Plus I love the animal-themed hooded baby towel and mitt sets for just £3.99 each. These would make a lovely present and they are also very practical for bath time.

BOOTS: The Mothercare sale has been on for a few days and it has loads of gorgeous outfits. It also sells a lot of bulk baby items at good prices such as four-packs of baby soap for £1.25 and Sudocrem for £2.99 per tub. Currently, you can layer on an additional offer: if you spend £40, you get £4 off, right up to £20 off if you spend £120.

H&M: If you need gifts for baby showers etc (now they’ve started up again) then H&M is a good place to start. They have lovely newborn items, such as stylish floral bodysuits for £6 for a three-pack, down from £9.99, and matching “born 2021” sets which include a body suit, leggings and hat for £4, down from £7.99. It’s worth scouring hm.com first as not every store carries full stock.

JOJOMAMANBEBE: The mum and baby specialist has a fantastic sale on everything from baby toys to storage to outfits. In the heat, mums-to-be might want to check out the huge selection of quality maternity wear with 50 per cent off, including swimsuits reduced from £29 to £14. Useful extras like kids’ sunhats start at £7 (down from £12). There are some great designs.

ARGOS: I always check the clearance section at Argos.co.uk as it adds items daily. I found Chad Valley play mats with 20 per cent off and a Cuggl Maple pushchair with £9 off, for just £50.99.

  • PRICES correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
