With a Smart plug, you can experience the convenience of the smart home without expensive equipment or potentially prying eyes. (We like smart bulbs for this reason, too). Appliances like TVs and lamps can go from mindless to smart as soon as you install the app. These are our favorite smart plugs we’ve tested (and ones we didn’t like).

We have plenty of other recommendations to help you build a smarter home, so check out our guides to the best Smart Bulbs, Security Cameras, Smart Speakers, and Smart Displays.

Updated February 2022: The TP-Link Kasa Mini is our new top pick. We’ve also added an outdoor plug from Cync and Kasa’s power strip as an option.
