IT’S not just energy bills that are on the rise.

If you switched to a new broadband contract at the start of the March 2020 lockdown, your supplier could be getting ready to shift you on to a more expensive deal.

Simply moving to a more competitive tariff could save you £345 a year, estimates Uswitch. But you can stretch those savings even further with my tips.

BUNDLE UP: If you’re paying for your TV, phone and broadband with different providers, bundling them together with just one supplier could save you some serious cash. When comparing deals, check if line rental is included and required.

SAVING: £240 a year

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: Not all broadband packages will be available in your area, so use a postcode checking service to be sure. You can find postcode checkers on most providers’ websites.

ONLY PAY FOR WHAT YOU NEED: Check whether your current broadband deal still offers good value. If you signed up for a large data allowance and fast speeds at the start of the first lockdown, consider whether you still need them. If you are no longer working from home, maybe scale back and opt for a cheaper package.

SAVING: £180 a year

CHECK HOW YOU PAY: It’s almost always cheapest to pay for your broadband bills by monthly direct debit. But some providers will also offer a discount if you ask to pay upfront. Choosing paperless billing could save you around £2 a month, too.

SAVING: £20 a year

DON’T STOP MOVING: Once you’ve switched to a new deal, set a reminder for when your contract ends so that you’re ready to switch again. Don’t be afraid to haggle and ask your provider to match any deal you’ve spotted. Your provider might offer a discount to avoid losing your custom.
