And with the next version of Samsung‘s Android system, One UI, there will probably be some new treats on older devices as well.

One such change expected on One UI 6.1 is a new battery tool to help you understand your device’s power – and maybe even get more out of it.

But it looks like you don’t have to wait until next year to start using the feature.

According to SamMobile, the new battery protection options can be activated now with the help of a third-party app.

The Activity Launcher, which has been downloaded more than 10million times, makes it possible.

Once it’s installed, users can search for “BatteryProtectionActivity”.

You can then open it and turn on the battery protection.

The three new choices set to arrive officially next year are listed, including basic protection, adaptive protection and maximum protection.

Constantly charging your battery while its plugged in and at 100 per cent is known to reduce its lifespan.

So, with these options you can adjust how it charges so the battery will live longer.

Basic stops charging at 100 per cent and resumes when it goes down to 95 per cent.

With adaptive on, charging will pause at 80 per cent while you are sleeping and finish charging to 100 per cent just before you wake up.

Meanwhile, maximum stops charging completely at 80 per cent and will not resume charging again unless the battery drops below 80 per cent – this provides the most protection but your device will never be 100 per cent charged for as long as you have the maximum option switched on.

Of course, there’s no telling whether these new features actually work yet, it may just be an empty framework of what’s to come when it’s officially launched in 2024.
