The Royal Mint has released new coins featuring The Snowman and the Snowdog

The animated short film was released on Christmas Eve in 2012.

The coin will feature an image of the Snowman, sporting his famous hat and scarf, holding the Snowdog.

It is the fifth consecutive year that award-winning illustrator Robin Shaw has worked with The Royal Mint.

The obverse side of the coin will feature Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, rather than a portrait of King Charles III.

The Mint has also used digital colour printing technology to bring the design to life.

This means collectors have the chance to own a colourful version of the coin too.

These are uncirculated commemorative coins, so you’ll have to buy them from the Royal Mint if you want to add one to your collection.

Prices for the new coin range from £11 for a brilliant uncirculated version to a whopping £1,195 for a gold coin with a coloured design.

They are available to buy online now from The Royal Mint’s website.

Rebecca Morgan, director of collector services at the Royal Mint, said: “We are delighted to introduce another collectable 50p coin to the series celebrating 10 years since the release of The Snowman And The Snowdog.

“This year’s design is just as charming as ever and features an exclusive design by award-winning illustrator Robin Shaw.”

There are several different types of coins you can buy from the Royal Mint.

Circulated coins are the ones you’ll see in your shop change.

Brilliant uncirculated coins are a higher standard than circulating and bullion coins.

The machines used to strike these coins are polished and finished by hand.

Proof coins are the highest quality coins produced by the Royal Mint and are all hand-finished.

Bullion coins are made from gold and silver and are usually used as an investment that aims to retain a certain value over time.

The Royal Mint also recently unveiled new 50p Harry Potter coin – here we explain how you can get your hands on one.

How much is The Snowman and the Snowdog coin worth?

The new The Snowman and the Snowdog coin is already being sold by Collectors on eBay.

On October 31, a pre-order of the coloured, silver proof 50p coin sold for £71.96.

This is £2.46 more than the listing for the same coin on The Royal Mint website where it is priced at £69.50.

Ultimately the value of the coin is affected by the bidders themselves.

If you are buying one, it’s important to check it’s not a fake.

Do your research to see what other coins have sold for, to give an idea of what you can expect to pay (or to make, if you’re selling).
