APPLE is reportedly planning to kill off one of its iPhones for good next month.

The iPhone 5C is expected to be declared “obsolete” by the tech giant, which could lead to problems for anyone still using one.

The device made waves for its bold colours way back in 2013.

It was one of Apple‘s cheaper iPhone devices, in an attempt to lure budget-conscious Android users.

But nine years after release, it seems the firm is ready to put the final nail in the iPhone 5C’s coffin, according to MacRumors.

Products are put into Apple’s “obsolete” category when distributing them for sale stopped more than seven years ago.

This means Apple discontinues all hardware servicing.

So essentially no more repairs will be possible.

The move is no surprise, as the iPhone 5C was officially classed as “vintage” by Apple in 2020.

It’s also standard for the company to push older devices down the order whenever it releases new iPhones and versions of iOS.

Following the release of iOS 16 last month, any iPhone older than the iPhone 8 will no longer receive software updates.

That includes the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, as well as the iPhone 6 – the most popular iPhone in history.

The iPhone 7 series and some older models will only support up to iOS 15, and can no longer receive updates.

If you own any of these devices you should seriously consider upgrading.

That’s because you won’t receive vital software upgrades that protect your device from cyber attacks.
