Recreational marijuana sales begin Thursday in New Jersey, marking the first time cannabis is legally available for nonmedical purposes in the New York City and Philadelphia regions.

Thirteen outlets around the Garden State that were already selling medical cannabis products were authorized earlier this month to serve all customers at least 21 years old. State officials estimated that 12% of eligible adults in the state—or roughly 836,000 people—will use recreational cannabis.
