Neil was sidelined for the entirety of the 1991–1992 season due to a back ailment.
He joined the team from Crewe Alexandra, where he made 187 appearances and scored 18 goals in 5.5 years.
He paid £750,000 to join Leicester City in 1996. At Wembley, he made his Leicester City debut against Crystal Palace. His first significant victory was against Middlesbrough in 1997. He had the opportunity to participate in two more league cup finals during his tenure, losing both times by a score of 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur, and in 2000, winning 2-1 against Tranmere Rovers.
Lennon signed a contract with Celtic for £5.75 million in 2000. He receives three gold medals. In four seasons, he assisted Celtic in winning two league titles and two Scottish Cups. He took part in the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, which Porto ultimately dropped after extra time by a score of 3-2.

He was named Interim Manager for the 2009–2010 campaign in 2010. Celtic won every league game and advanced to the semifinals under Lennon. He was hired as a full-time manager in June 2010. From a minor league, he signed a large number of youthful, skilled, and affordable players. Additionally signed on are Gary Hooper, Emilio Izaguirre, and Beram Kayal.
Neil guided Celtic to the League Cup Final in 2011, when they fell to Rangers. Celtic was admitted to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in 2013–14.
On October 12, 2014, he signed a four-year contract with Bolton Wanderers after leaving Celtic. The first game he coached Bolton to victory. He took the squad from the bottom of the league to position 14 in just three months.
Lennon was hired as the head coach of Hibernian in June 2016. Hibernial won the Scottish Championship under his direction in his maiden campaign. He extends his agreement through the 2019–20 campaign.
Hibernial punished Lennon with a suspension for trading a club employee. He and Garry Parker left the club in January by mutual agreement.
Lennon made his managerial comeback at Celtic in February 2019. The Celtic used him up until February 2021.
He currently holds the position as Omonia’s head coach. He started on March 8, 2022. On May 25, Omonia defeated Ethnikos Achna and won the Cypriot Cup under his direction.
