But not everything on the hangers in Costco is worth the change.

We spoke to Stephen Robinson, founder of Outrank and digital marketing veteran to find out the three things to always buy at the retailer.

Plus, Stephen shared which items to always leave on the shelf.

Cleaning and bathroom supplies

Cleaning spray, soap and toilet roll might seem expensive at first glance but bulk buying them could pay off in the long term.

Stephen said: “Some things I would always buy in Costco are household items and cleaning supplies.

“The retailer is known for offering competitive prices on household items such as toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies.

“Best of all, these products are often available in larger packages which can be cost-effective, especially for families or individuals who consume them frequently.”

For example, 16 rolls of Andrex sell for £11.85 at Tesco and £11.75 at Sainbury’s.

That would amount to £23.70 if two sets were purchased.

But Costco’s Kirkland brand of 40 rolls can be purchased for £18.59.

That equals about 46p per roll compared to 74p per roll for the Andrex brand.

Stephen said: “Bulk buying your groceries is a great way to save money at Costco.

“It is renowned for its bulk purchases, which can be a great value for items like rice, pasta, canned goods, and non-perishable pantry staples.

“I have found that buying these items in larger quantities can help save money in the long run.”

Condiments can be a great option to buy at Costco.

For example, Hellmann’s mayonnaise costs £5.89 for two squeezy tubes of 750ml each.

At Tesco, the same brand and size sells for £3.90 each – meaning two would cost £7.80.

Electronics

Shoppers can also get electronics for a decent price if they know where to look.

Stephen said: “Certain electronics and appliances can be found at discounted prices in Costco, too.

“Of course, this isn’t always the case, but you can get lucky.

“From TVs and laptops to kitchen appliances, you can find good deals at Costco, especially during promotional events or seasonal sales.”

We’ve seen TVs available to buy for as little as £180.

What items should I avoid?

But not everything is worth picking up at Costco and it’s worth being in the know to avoid wasting your cash.

Stephen said: “Some smaller items can be found more cheaply elsewhere.

“Also, if you only need a small quantity of something, I recommend trying another retailer first as they could be more suitable for your needs.

“Before buying everyday items like toothpaste, shampoo, or condiments in bulk at Costco, I suggest you compare prices and consider whether you can use the larger quantities before they expire or become obsolete.”

Who can shop at Costco?

Costco is a chain retail store that sells items in bulk. It also sells items under its own brand, Kirkland.

But not just anyone can shop at Costco – you need to be a member.

Not everyone is eligible for membership though,

You need to have – or be retired from – a certain type of job to be accepted.

This includes public sector workers – such as NHS staff, police officers, teachers and local government workers – or those working in banking and finance.

A full list of accepted jobs and qualifications can be found on the Costco website.

Costco membership starts from £15 a year for online shopping only.

This rises to £33.60 a year for individual members who want access to the warehouses.
