WILKO is holding huge sales in Scotland as the store faces closing down – and shoppers have been going wild for their bargains.

The discount chain has 400 shops across the UK – including 10 here in Scotland – and are currently in talks over a desperate bid to keep them open.

I visited the Clydebank branch of the store to see what home essentials were available at cheap prices, and found some on sale for as little as £1.80.

I started off by bagging myself a luxury single airbed for just £12.60, which had originally cost £18.

It was a steal at the new reduced price, and I love to have family members come and stay over at my flat, so I knew I couldn’t go wrong with an extra spot to sleep.

The bargain mattress can also be taken along on holiday or on a camping trip, to provide some support underneath a sleeping bag.

A description on the box says the airbed is covered with a comfortable flocked finish and has coil construction for durability.

Other large items such as a garden table and two folding chairs were available for £45.

Next I moved on to my best bargain buy from Wilko – a hand finished side plate for just £1.80.

Most of the pink dishes had been snapped up, so I was glad to get my hands on one.

The kitchenware section also boasted reduced plastic champagne flutes or gin goblets perfect for a garden party, all selling in packs of two for around £5.

There was a range of other crockery on sale too, so punters who need to stock up on bowls and plates can find them at cheap prices in the store’s closing sale.

Finally I visited the fragrance and light section.

There were desk lamps on sale in different shades for £3, and even some reduced chandeliers.

I browsed through discounted candles before eventually settling on a reed diffuser for £2.10, which was vanilla scented and had a lovely relaxing smell.

The final sale aisle had an assortment of wicker washing baskets, some reduced down from £9 to £6, and others from £12 to £9.50.

I was delighted with my finds and the closing down sales meant I got a few useful household essentials for only £16.50.
