Hundreds are looking to cut back on their Christmas spending, a poll found

The poll of 2,000 adults who celebrate Yuletide even found 39% would buy all their festive food months before, if it didn’t run the risk of going off.

More than a third (35%) are looking to reduce their festive outgoings compared to last year, and the same percentage worried about the cost of their Christmas meal this year.

The survey was commissioned by Aldi, which has announced a “Christmas Price Lock” available during the festive period.

Prices of key food staples including a range of whole fresh turkeys, turkey crowns, pigs in blankets, Christmas puddings, and festive vegetables will remain the same as they were in 2022.

This is despite turkey (26%), roast potatoes (18%) and pig in blankets (11%) being the one item they simply couldn’t live without this Christmas.

To further reduce outgoings, one in five are also planning to spend the Christmas Day meal with less people – going from four to three this year.

Aunties and uncles topped the list of those most likely to be uninvited (15%), closely followed by mother-in-law (12%) and father-in-law (11%), the OnePoll research found.
