Keeping on top of the damp in your home can be challenging at this time of year.

This is not helped by the fact that most people will have to crank up the heating or put the tumble dryer on to get their laundry dry.

Neither option is good for the household bills, but the condensation that can develop also increases the risk of mould.

However, Home Bargains has a solution that doesn’t cost a fortune.

The retailer has some dehumidifier tubs that cost just 79p for one or you can buy a pack of 12 for £9.48.

The Ambient Air Interior Dehumidifier tubs are described on the Home Bargains website as an “easy and quick way to help eradicate damp”

The tubs draw dampness and moisture from the surrounding atmosphere and trap it.

This helps to reduce condensation and prevent mould and mildew build-up.

The product has a following of loyal fans, some of who say they have one in each room of their home.

Taking to social media to praise the handy household item, one person said: “I love these they really do help with condensation.”

Another added: “I’ve been using these for a few years and yes they do work they are brilliant in a bathroom”.

A third person said: “These do work I have one in every bedroom.”

To use the tubs all you need to do is remove the plastic lid and foil top, leaving the next layer in place.

Then put the lid back on the tub and place it wherever you struggle with condensation in your home.

The pots last around six weeks and absorb up to three times their weight in water.

The tubs are disposable so you will need to buy new ones when they fill up, how quickly that happens depends on how bad the damp issue is in your home.

We had a look around to see if other retailers offer a similar product.

B&Q has a pack of ten Livivo dehumidifiers for £9.99 and Amazon also has a multipack of ten for £11.97.

Other ways to get rid of condensation in your home

There are plenty of other things you use too to combat mould and condensation in your home.

As well as the disposable dehumidifier tubs you can buy portable ones and plug-in ones that you can use again and again.

Some dehumidifiers are more expensive than others and prices range by quite a bit depending on what you want.

A popular one at the moment is the Unibond Aero 360 moisture absorber, which is available from Screwfix for £9.79.

The Unibond one is portable and can be re-used as you just need to pop a tablet inside.

It lasts up to three months, again depending on how bad the condensation is in your home.

B&M also has a plug-in one that is slightly more expensive at £30.

This cost-effective solution extracts up to 300ml of excess moisture from the room per day, which is the equivalent of a bottle of water.

If you have a bigger budget we spotted one in John Lewis for £179, it is a 12L size and comes with a five-year guarantee.

This is top of the range and also doubles up as an air purifier.

However, with the cost of living as it is most people will be looking for a cheap solution.

We tested out £1 dehumidifiers and the winner will prevent mould for months.
