Natwest sale: M&C Saatchi has been tasked with attracting a ‘new generation of investors’

Ministers have called on the advertising agency behind Margaret Thatcher’s ‘Labour Isn’t Working’ campaign from the 1970s to drum up support for the NatWest share sale this summer.

M&C Saatchi has been tasked with attracting a ‘new generation of investors’ and will publicise the sale along with the market research firm Walnut Unlimited.

A Government spokesman said yesterday: ‘We have brought M&C Saatchi and Walnut Unlimited on board for their extensive expertise.’

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said in November that he aims to sell more of the taxpayers’ 33pc stake in NatWest.

The lender – then RBS – was given a £45billion bailout in 2008, leaving the Government with an 80 per cent stake that has been gradually whittled down.
