WETHERSPOON fans may soon have to find a new local as yet more sites are at risk of closing for good.

More than half a dozen branches it Wetherspoons has marked for closure are currently under offer.

This means that a buyer has presented an offer that is being considered by the seller.

It doesn’t mean that the sale is guaranteed, and it could still remain open if it doesn’t complete.

Wetherspoon initially announced plans to close to close 32 pubs back in September, before announcing further closures in November.

Since then, pubs in major cities such as Southampton and London have closed their doors.

Plus, two additional venues, which were not part of the initial plans, could, or have already closed.

The Sir John Arderne in Newark, Nottinghamshire has been marked for closure, while The Knights Templar in Chancery Lane, London, closed its doors in March.

The hospitality chain runs 844 pubs in the UK and Ireland and employs up to 43,000 people.

Below is the list of seven pubs that have recently gone under offer but each venue is still open for business.

• Silkstone Inn, Barnsley
• The John Masefield, New Ferry
• The Cross Keys, Peebles
• The Saltoun Inn, Fraserburgh
• General Sir Redvers Buller, Crediton
• The Bank House, Cheltenham

Plus, two more venues have closed their doors in recent months.

The Worlds Inn in Romford called its final orders in April, while The Toll Gate in Harringay, London, closed in March.

Pubs and hospitality chains have been knocked by rising costs as inflation sends prices soaring and less demand among cash-strapped punters.

More than 12 hospitality venues have shut each day over the past year amid the pressure of soaring energy costs, according to figures.

Marston’s Brewery has put 61 pubs up for sale following a review of its estate.

Italian dining chain Prezzo revealed plans to shut 46 restaurants as a result of soaring energy and food costs.

Plus Frankie and Benny’s revealed it is closing 18 loss-making restaurants by the end of this month.
