Barclays, Halifax and Lloyds Bank all plan to close branches this month

Banks are shutting their branches to cut costs and to shift their focus to online banking services.

Data from the UK’s largest cash machine network, LINK, keep track of any planned branch closures across the UK.

And The Sun found that there are 18 planned closures happening between now and the end of December.

It comes after 57 bank branches closed their doors to customers in November.

And Barclays is now set to close nine branches and Lloyds Bank is to bring down the shutters at six of its branches this month.

Other big banks planning to shut up shop include Halifax, which is set to close three branches over the festive period.

Typically if there are no banks in a town, you should be able to do some basic banking in your local post office.

Many banks also offer a mobile banking service.

This is where your bank brings a bus to your local area that has the services that are usually available at your branch.

You should call up your bank to see if it runs a banking bus and they will be able to tell you where and when it will be parked.

Other banks use buildings such as village halls or libraries to offer mobile banking services.

Some 4,685 bank branches have closed nationwide since 2015.

Here is a full list of the 18 bank branches that are going to close along with the date they are planning on putting up the shutters.
