MILLIONS of people who get the state pension, Universal Credit and other benefits will be paid early this week.
It comes ahead of the August Bank Holiday this weekend (August 28).

A three day weekend means benefits like Universal Credit, state pension and child benefit will be paid early.
Bank holidays can affect your usual dates for getting benefit payments.
For example, over the Easter break in April, many claimants were paid the day before Good Friday.
This year’s summer bank holiday is no different.
It means all benefit claimants who are due to be paid on August 28 will get their money earlier than usual.
As an example, if you get tax credits and are due to be paid on the Bank Holiday Monday, you’ll be paid on Friday, August 25.
That’s the same for state pension payments, Universal Credit, attendance allowance and carer’s allowance.
Which benefits will be paid early?
If you get any of the following benefits, then you’ll want to make sure you’re prepared:

Will my benefit payment amount change?
No, the amount you’re due should remain the same.
It will only be different if you’ve had a change in circumstances since your last payment, which you’ll need to alert the DWP of.
You don’t need to do anything if your usual date for getting the state pension falls on a bank holiday.
Don’t forget that if you get paid early then you’ll have to make the money you get go further as you’ll have extra days to wait until your next payment date.
Make sure you factor this into your budget.
If your money is not paid on time, then you should double-check the date you get paid normally and contact your bank.
Failing that, you should contact the DWP.
You can also submit a complaint to the DWP over any unpaid benefits.
What other bank holidays can affect Universal Credit and benefit payments?
August’s long bank holiday weekend is not the only bank holiday you’ll get this year.

- Thursday, November 30 – St Andrew’s Day (Scotland only)
- Tuesday, December 26 – Boxing Day
