First Direct is launching a limited-time prize draw for current account switchers, with new customers in with a chance of winning one of five £12,500 sums.

This is on top of the £175 switching offer which is available to those who switch their full banking to First Direct using the Current Account Switch Service and pay in at least £1,000 within three months of opening.

Eligible customers who open a First Direct current account between now and 1 October will be in with a chance of winning the five-figure sum.

Eyes on the prize: Switchers to first direct opening an account between 4 September and 1 October will be entered into a giveaway with five £12,500 prizes

Customers who meet the bank’s criteria will be entered automatically into the draw and the winners selected at random on 8 November.

Winners will be notified by phone, email or text within 14 days of the draw.

What you need to do

In order to be able to enter, customers will need to be living in the UK and be 18 years or older.

You need to switch your account to first direct using the Current Account Switch Service within 30 days of opening the account and pay in £1,000 within 30 days of opening the account.

You also need to be a new customer to First Direct and have not previously held an account with it.

Switchers who have previously held a First Direct product, or opened a HSBC one or after 1 January 2020 will not be eligible for the draw.

HSBC is a stablemate of First Direct.

The account must be opened between 4 September 2023 and 1 October 2023.

Lloyd Robson, of First Direct, said: ‘We are always looking for new ways to say thank you to those who choose to bank with first direct.

‘We know that £12,500 can be a life-changing sum of money for many.

‘This prize could help our customers with funding a financial milestone such as a deposit for their first home or might simply alleviate the pressure of rising costs in the run up to Christmas – however it’s used, we hope it’ll make a big difference to the winners.

‘This prize draw is the latest measure designed to give back to our customers.

This is on top of our long-standing switching incentive, best-buy saving rates, interest-free overdraft facility, as well as the recent removal of overseas transaction fees.’

First Direct is one of only two banks with a current account switching offer of pure cash. The other is NatWest, which currently has a £200 switching deal in place.
