AN ex-Greggs employee has revealed how to bag free food if you’re not impressed with what’s on offer.
The “secret” was revealed on Channel 5’s Inside Greggs: Britain’s Best Bakery last night, which looked behind the scenes at the high street chain.

An employee revealed how staff are allowed to offer customers a freebie if they’re genuinely disappointed with the food available.
Jamie Dear claimed that, “If ever there are no sausage rolls or if there are cold products, Greggs can offer the customer something free of charge.”
Usually a Greggs sausage roll costs £1.75, and it is the most popular item on the store’s menu.
Employees can only offer customers a freebie if the store doesn’t have any fresh pastries available though or if the hot product you pay for turns out to be cold.

Greggs is yet to confirm the policy though and whether it’s something applied nationwide.
If it turns out to be the case, customers are unlikely to be able to demand free food as it’s given out at the discretion of the staff only if you’ve had a bad batch of food.
The show also explained how Greggs can keep its prices so low, despite the extra VAT charges slapped on hot food.
Once pastries are removed from the oven they are left to cool on the display racks, so technically they’re not hot food and avoid the added charges.
There are other ways you can get sausage rolls for free from the bakery though.
Greggs is teamed up with companies like Student Beans where buying a sandwich deal entitles you to a free sausage roll if you’re a student and can show your student ID in-store.
