ARE you planning to head out on a family picnic?
The summer weather is perfect for getting outside with the kids, but we all know how picky little ’uns can be when it comes to food.
If sarnies just won’t cut it with your tots, these snack ideas are sure to be a hit . . .
A DISHY TREAT: Little Dish packs are quick to whip up but can be more costly than prepping home-made grub. But I’ve found the Little Dish Mini Cod Goujons are great for kids on the go and they’re down to £2, instead of £2.99, at Ocado. Quickly cook in the oven, pack up and go.

LOTS OF LOLLY: Children’s snacking brand Bear, known for its fruity lunchbox treats, has now launched frozen ice lollies. There are two flavours, strawberry and mango, both containing just two real fruit ingredients. The RRP is £2.50 but you can get a pack of five at Waitrose for £2. If you fancy making your own fruity lollies, use lolly moulds (Tesco has them for £2) and your choice of apple juice and blended fruits. Pour your fruity mixture into the moulds and allow to set overnight before popping in your coolbox. Easy.

LUNCHABLES FOR LESS: I used to love getting Lunchables in my packed lunch, but at £1.50 a pack at Sainsbury’s, it soon adds up if you’re providing snacks for numerous kiddies. Cut costs by making your own. Grab a pack of cream crackers from Aldi for 39p, a pack of cooked ham for 79p and some mature lighter cheese for £1.79. Altogether that comes to £2.97 and you’ll be able to make several portions.
POP TO IT: Who doesn’t love popcorn? You can buy a 500g bag of popcorn kernels for £1.10 at Sainsbury’s — cheaper than Ocado’s for £2. Heat some oil in a pan, then drop in 50g of kernels. Pop the lid on the pan and cook until the popping stops. Your kids can choose their own toppings, be they salty or sweet. Store the popcorn in airtight containers.
