The FTSE 100 has reversed earlier gains to close some 26.4 points lower at 7,274, while the FTSE 250 ended the day down 172.8 points, to 23,367.

Rolls-Royce shares have surged after the Government threw its weight behind a project to build mini nuclear reactors to help Britain go green and avert a power crisis in the early 2030s. 

UK-listed stocks are ‘near-record cheap’, according to JP Morgan, offering investors a buying opportunity after several years of ‘unloved’ status for the British market. 

Meanwhile, ABF’s Primark sales were severely hit by lockdowns, as were those of Kent-based brewer and pub owner Shepherd Neame.
