ASDA has made a big change to its rewards scheme and it’s good news for customers.

Under the supermarket’s rewards scheme, customers can earn points when they buy products.

The points go into a cashpot which can be converted into vouchers to spend on their next shop.

Up until now, customers had one month from creating a voucher to spend it.

But the supermarket has now extended this period to three months.

It means shoppers will have more time to use their vouchers but also build up their cashpot to save for a special occasion.

Remember though, you have six months to transfer your cashpot into vouchers.

Customers should receive a notification on the Reward Scheme app telling them the amount that is due to expire each month.

It comes after Asda increased the size of the cash pot shoppers can transfer into vouchers from £10 to £100.

You can sign up to the Asda Rewards scheme by downloading the app.

You can get it on the Apple Store and Google Play.

Once downloaded, you have to register your personal details and you should be good to go.

You just have to scan your app at the till every time you shop to build up points.

What other loyalty schemes are there?

Asda isn’t the only supermarket that runs a loyalty scheme – here’s a few others.

Tesco

Millions of Tesco customers have a Clubcard, which lets them earn points as they shop.

These points can then be turned into vouchers to be used to get money off their next shop or at one of Tesco’s partners.

Each time you spend £1 in store and online, you get one point when you scan your card or app.

You also get one point for every £2 spent on fuel.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you £1.50, the minimum amount you need to request a voucher.

The vouchers are worth face value at Tesco or you can triple their worth by spending them at a Clubcard partner.

The list of partners includes Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and English Heritage.

That means a voucher worth £1.50 in Tesco is worth £4.50 in Pizza Express.

Customers with a Clubcard can get discounted prices on everyday goods too.

For example, customers can get four tins of 420g Tesco own brand baked beans for £1.70 if they have a Clubcard.

Without it, they would have to spend £2.

Sainsbury’s Nectar Card

Sainsbury’s loyalty scheme is called the Nectar Card.

Shoppers earn points when they spend money at Sainsbury’s, Sainsbury’s petrol stations and other retailers including eBay and Dulux Decorator Centres.

One Nectar point is worth £1 or a litre of fuel.

At most of Nectar’s online partner stores, you’ll collect two points for each £1 you spend.

One Nectar Card point is worth 0.5p, so you have to get 200 Nectar points to get £1.

Once you have enough points you can turn them into vouchers to buy your next food shop at Sainsbury’s.

You can use the points to bag plane tickets at Expedia, train tickets from Eurostar or cinema tickets for Vue cinemas too.

My Morrisons

My Morrisons was launched in 2016 originally under the Morrisons More brand.

Under the current scheme, shoppers receive digital coupons that can be used for instant savings in stores.

That means you won’t be able to earn anything on your shopping, but you’ll get “personalised offers” and coupons to get money off your groceries.

Lidl Plus

Lidl launched a loyalty app in September 2020, which shoppers can use to get discounts on groceries, Sky bills and even cinema tickets.

You just have to scan your card as you shop in store which sees you earn points.

Once you’ve earned a certain amount of points, Lidl will give you money off your shopping.

You can get a free in-store bakery item when you spend £50 in a month.

You’ll get a £2 coupon when you spend £100 in store a month, or a £10 coupon when you spend £200 in store a month.

Each time you spend there’s also a one in five chance of winning a prize with a digital scratchcard. Prizes range from 25p to £20 off your weekly shop.
