MANY shops and businesses are announcing their closure on the day of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll’s funeral.
King Charles lll confirmed last week that the day would officially be declared a bank holiday.
Are petrol stations open on September Bank Holiday?
Most petrol stations are still to reveal whether they will be shut on the day.
However, some supermarkets have decided to stay closed and their respective petrol stations will be affected.
For example, Sainsbury’s will shut all its UK stores on Monday but its convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 5pm-10pm to allow our customers to pick up essential items.
You should presume for now supermarket petrol filling stations will be shut if stores are.
Which shops are closing?
Here’s a list of a few which are shutting:
Zara
Zara will close all its stores as a mark of respect on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
The brand has more than 60 shops across the UK.

The high street retailer, which has 510 stores in the UK, said: “In honour of Her Majesty and so our colleagues can pay their respects, all stores will be closed on Monday, 19 September.”
Primark
Primark will close all its shops next Monday for the Queen’s funeral.
All of the high street giant’s 191 stores will be closed on Monday, September 19, as a mark of respect.
Poundland
All 770 Poundland stores will shut to customers on Monday.
It means staff of both retailers will be able to watch the Queen’s funeral on television.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: “We know how important it is that colleagues have the opportunity to join with their families and pay their respects on the day the funeral takes place.
“Any colleagues who were scheduled to work on 19 September, will receive their scheduled pay in full.”
Marks and Spencer
Marks & Spencer is to close all of its store and pause its delivery services.
A small number of stores open in the London area will remain open so mourners in the capital can grab a drink or a bite to eat.
Stuart Machin, CEO of M&S said: “All of us at M&S – and indeed across the country and beyond – feel a real and deep sense of loss and sadness at the passing of Her Majesty, as well as huge respect for the grace with which His Majesty King Charles III and the wider Royal Family have led the nation in our mourning.”
John Lewis and Waitrose
The John Lewis Partnership said it will shut John Lewis department stores and Waitrose supermarkets all day for the funeral.
Andrew Murphy, chief operating officer of The John Lewis Partnership, said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
“We will be closing our stores on the day of her funeral as a mark of respect, and because we believe this is the right thing to do for our partners and customers.”
It added there may be “a very limited number of Waitrose stores” near to the route of the funeral procession which remain open to serve members of the public nearby.
It stressed these shops would close during the funeral itself.
