THE menu at McDonald’s is in constant shake-up with the items like macaroni cheese toasties, the McKroket, and the US favorite cheese danish.
This past summer menu featured flavours inspired by the cuisine of Spain and Italy, and also included a tiramisu McFlurry and a Spanish fruit punch.
The meals were introduced in two waves, the Italian menu was available in June and a Taste of Spain and Cyprus followed in July.
The fast food chain has over 36,000 outlets in over 100 nations, which serve 68 MILLION customers daily.
But menus differ from country to country, with diners in Japan and Canada enjoying a very different Maccie’s experience to those in the UK.
From macaroni cheese toasties to Oreo Spam Burgers, here are some of the weird and wonderful creations found under the golden arches around the world.
Oreo Spam Burger – China
Food combos don’t come much weirder than tinned meat and crushed cookies.
But Maccie D diners in China were offered just that in 2020 – in the Oreo Spam Burger.
The off-putting creation featured two extra-thick slices of Spam topped with Oreo crumbs and the brand’s classic burger sauce.
It was only available for one day, but proved a surprise hit – with one customer declaring the flavours “unexpectedly harmonious and tasty.”

Ham n’ Egg Twisty Pasta – Hong Kong
Bizarrely, this odd pasta dish, topped with ham and a poached egg, is on the breakfast menu at Hong Kong outlets.
It also comes with a sausage and egg topping or, for lunch, with grilled chicken.
McKroket – The Netherlands
The croquette burger has a hidden ingredient that may come as a surprise.
Lurking inside that crispy potato shell, smothered in mustard sauce, is beef stew .
The salty treat is a Dutch staple – and a whole meal in one bun.
Bacon, Cheese and Macaroni Toastie – Hong Kong
If a carb overload is required, this toasted sandwich stuffed with macaroni cheese and bacon is just the thing.
McDonald’s introduced this stodgy snack to the Hong Kong market in 2017, possibly inventing the unhealthiest meal deal ever.
Want fries with that?
Shaka Shaka Chicken – Japan
Fans of Salt n’ Shake crisps will love this dish.
It’s a wrapped-up chicken patty and a packet of seasoning, with a choice of lemon, pepper and American BBQ.
Pour in the seasoning, shake, and enjoy.
Poutine – Canada
This is McDonald’s take on a classic Canadian dish.
Poutine is basically cheesy chips, made using cheese curds, then smothered with gravy.
Tomato and Mozzarella turnover – Italy
These delicious delicacies – known as Panzarotti in Italy – are like mini calzones.
Stuffed with hot runny cheese and tomatoes, they’re a great meat-free option.
But that molten lava mozzarella is definitely a mouth-scalding hazard.
Black and White burgers – Hong Kong
Fancy tucking into a black burger bun with your Big Mac.
Apparently its squid ink that makes the seeded bread pitch black, and they are then stuffed with beef.
The white bun has a chicken patty instead.
Mashed Potato Burger – China
If you’re the kind who orders fries AND mash in Nando’s you might want to try this delicacy from China.
As part of their Manly Man campaign in 2012, the country’s McDonald’s launched a burger with two patties and bacon, topped with a scoop of mashed potato.
Like shepherd’s pie in a bun.
Sweety Con Nutella – Italy
It’s a burger with a sweet twist.
Instead of meat, the burger bun oozes gooey Nutella. Nutty by nice.
Veg Pizza McPuff – India
Indian McDonald’s restaurants are hot on veggie food and this is a fine example.
A savoury dough stuffed with tomato sauce, carrots, red pepper, beans, onion, peas and gooey mozzarella.
Babur Ayam McD – Malaysia
The unlikely mixing of chicken strips served on a bed of PORRIDGE and garnished with spring onions, sliced ginger, fried shallots and diced chillies.
Whether it’s for breakfast or lunch is anyone’s guess.
McFloat
Imagine a cool cola topped with ice cream on a hot sunny day.
The lucky folk of Hong Kong get to indulge in this tasty Coke with a squirt of soft serve ice cream whenever they are feeling the heat.
This needs to be launched in the UK by the summer.
Cheese Danish – US
Starting September 14, the burger giant is bringing back its Cheese Danish.
McDonald’s said the treat will be a new addition to the McCafé Bakery menu lineup nationwide.
The company describes it as a “flakey pastry with a sweet cream cheese filling and topped with a buttery streusel and light vanilla drizzle”.
The danish will be a limited-time offering and isn’t exactly the same as it’s predecessor.
Instead, it said it offers a “fresh take” on a similar pastry it briefly served back in the 1980s.
The sweet treat will be available all day at participating restaurants, drive-thrus or on the McDonald’s App for McDelivery.
Churros – South Korea
Essentially a doughnut stick – coated in sugar.
Sweet.
