DISCOUNT supermarket Aldi is going on a hiring spree that will see 1,000 new logistics jobs created this year. 

The job boost will be welcomed by those looking for work during the cost of living crisis, which has seen households struggling to make ends meet.

Aldi, which is the UK’s fifth largest supermarket, currently has 960 stores and employs around 38,000 people. 

But it is now looking to expand and some jobs up for grabs could make you up to £19.80 per hour.

Aldi is looking for people to work full-time and part-time in various logistics positions. 

You’d be working in Aldi’s distribution, transport and maintenance teams at one of its 11 Regional Distribution Centres across the country.

The jobs push comes as part of Aldi’s nationwide expansion – the supermarket is planning on creating 2,000 permanent roles across the UK this year.

Which supermarkets pay the best wages?

Supermarkets are starting to pay workers more money.

Recently, Morrisons announced it’s more than 80,000 store and manufacturing staff will get an hourly rate of £10.20 from October.

That’s an increase of 2% on current wages, and staff in London will get £11.05.

Morrisons is not the only supermarket to increase wages in recent months.

Asda will increase the hourly rate for shop floor staff to £10.10 per hour from July – an increase from £9.66.

And Tesco, the UK’s largest private employer, has said it will raise its hourly rates for store staff to £10.10 from July 24 – up from the £9.55 they get now.

Which firms are giving workers pay rises and cost of living bonuses? 

As inflation hits 9.4% people’s money is not going as far, and food and fuel costs are still sky high. 

But some employers are giving their workers a helping hand by offering pay rises and cost of living bonuses. 

The government also announced NHS doctors and dentists will get a 4.5% wage boost, while the lowest workers in the health service, including porters and cleaners, will get up to 9.3%.

And big companies including Virgin Money, Lloyds Banking Group and Barclays are doing their bit to help people get through difficult times.
