But with so many on offer on supermarket shelves, which will be most pleasing to your taste buds?
We asked writer and mum-of-three Lynsey Hope to compare some best-sellers and she found you don’t always have to buy the most expensive ones for your sausage roll fix.

Lidl Chef Select Sausage Rolls

Lynsey says: “These looked almost identical to more expensive own brand sausage rolls, you really couldn’t tell the difference.
They are a great price at Lidl too at just 39p per 100g, which is amazing value. I’m happy to report I wasn’t let down on taste either.
The pastry was just right, buttery and flaky and inside the seasoning was nice. There was a good amount of filling.
These tasted better than more expensive alternatives and were my personal favourite.”

Lynsey says: “These were impressive with a lovely golden colour and a tasty filling.
When eaten warm, these tasted quite similar to a Greggs sausage roll. The spicing was spot on.
One of the cheaper options too so they represent great value for Morrisons. I’d buy these again.”

Lynsey says: “For cheap sausage rolls, these have a great flavour.
They’re a good size so one is enough and hit the spot for a snack.
There wasn’t that much filling inside, but it was tasty enough.
They are quite high in fat compared to other brands with 14g in each one, so not the best for your waistline.”

Lynsey says: “I laid these out amongst others at a buffet and they disappeared in minutes.
They looked like very posh sausage rolls. Not cheap from Aldi (in fact the second most expensive per 100g) but the pastry was delicious and the filling had a lovely flavour. Very impressive”

“These had a deeper colour than most but the pastry was light and flaky and they sausage flavour was delicious.
“They were very more-ish. Pricey. The most expensive per 100g in our test, but worth a little extra if you are planning a special picnic!”

Lynsey says: “The pastry on these was quite thick and chewy and the sausage meat was tasty, but nothing special.
The price is good so fine for a party if you’re buying lots. Nothing wrong with them but I wasn’t overwhelmed.”

Sadly though, they tasted a bit too dry and there wasn’t enough filling.

We’ve also tested supermarket scotch eggs and the best one was from a bargain store.
We tested orange squash from various supermarkets against Robinsons and the winner was a fraction of the price.
And we tried at-home draft beer pumps. We loved pouring a pint in our kitchen for only £3.25.
