Your Alexa could save your life – change Amazon Echo settings today

IF you’re worried about a vulnerable loved one, Alexa has a new trick up its sleeve that could save lives.

Amazon has launched a new paid-for service called Alexa Together, which lets you support others when you can’t be there.

There are several key features but one of the biggest is the ability to speak to trained agents in moments of crisis.

24/7 Urgent Response will put you through to a person who can alert emergency services.

All you have to say is, “Alexa, call for help.”

Another useful feature is Fall Detection Response, which will notify emergency contacts.

For this to work, you’ll need additional kit such as ATS’s SkyAngelCare fall detection pendant.

Motion sensors and radio waves are able to pick up on any collapses, before triggering Alexa to seek help.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 684,000 fatal falls happen every year, making it the second biggest cause of unintentional injury death.

With Remote Assist the caregiver can also make life a bit easier by setting up reminders, creating shopping lists and linking up music and video providers.

Meanwhile, the Activity Feed and Customised Alerts offer some extra peace of mind by telling you when loved ones used Alexa to get up and other interactions they’ve had with the voice assistant.

At the moment, Alexa Together is only available in the US.

A subscription costs $19.99 a month or you can pay $199 upfront for a year.

Amazon is also offering a limited six months free to try it out.
