The mobile network is offering the deal from today, May 6, until July 7 – which means you have two months to cash in on the swap offer.

You’ll want to factor in whether it’s worth switching by looking at the tariff you’d want to sign up for.

For an Apple iPhone 13 with unlimited data, you’ll have to pay a £50 upfront cost, and then £52 a month.

A Samsung A22 with unlimited data will cost you £20 upfront and then £30 a month.

Make sure you’re not signing up to a contract you can’t afford just because of the switching offer.

The free cash could come in handy at a point when households are battling against a crippling cost of living crisis.

Bills from energy to fuel and transport are rising – and mobile networks companies are hiking rates too.

Three customers now have to pay up to £31 extra per year for their bills after a price hike in April this year.

While O2 and Virgin Mobile announced in February that bills would rise by as much as £48.

BT, EE and Vodafone increased prices by up to £74 a year too.

How to get the deal

To switch to Three and get the free money, you’ll need to text the letters “PAC” and the date of birth for whoever is the account holder for your existing mobile phone contract to 65075.

You’ll then be sent a code – you’ll need to keep this.

Finally, you need to go into a Three store, call 0800 033 8006, or apply for the switch online – you’ll need your code when doing this.

You’ll then receive a pre-paid Mastercard which will be sent to you with the cashback amount on it after 45 days of switching.

You can either choose to have a virtual Mastercard or a physical plastic card to use.

If you choose to have an actual card delivered to you, be warned that £5 will be taken off the balance to pay for delivery fees.

You can spend your money anywhere that Mastercard is accepted.

Make sure to spend the money before the card expires.

There is a 12-month expiry date – after this point, a £2.95 fee will be taken from the card’s balance per month until you’ve used it all.

You will also have to show proof that you’ve switched – so keep the code that you were sent by Three.

Three isn’t the only company tempting new customers in with a switch deal.

A number of banks are flogging free cash switching incentives.

Halifax is giving out £125 if you move your current account over to them – but you only have until May 9 to get the deal.

Nationwide is also offering up to £125 switching bonus when you move to its FlexPlus, FlexDirect or FlexAccount account and First Direct is offering £150.

You might have to meet certain conditions in order to get the cash – and it could also be time consuming for you to swap.

You should factor in whether the new company you’re planning to sign up with offers good customer service and products as well.
