The official name for the popular pastry is a London cheesecake, although despite the name it does not contain any cheese.

The retro dessert is made from squares of puff pastry that are filled with a layer of frangipane, a dollop of jam, and topped off with icing and coconut flakes.

One shopper posted a picture of the cakes to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group and fans of the pastry were quick to take a trip down memory lane.

The post read: “Growing up in the 80s my mum always had London cheesecake from the bakery, what a throwback. They are now available in Aldi.”

Another fan added: “We loved them – way before the cheesecake we know now.”

While another person said: “I absolutely love them, it reminds me of my mum.”

A third person commented: “Always loved them as a kid. I am now 55 and my dad still buys them for me now and then.”

The London cheesecake is showing out of stock at the moment on the Aldi website but according to the Facebook post, the item costs £1.29 for a pack of two.

However just because it is out of stock online does not mean that you cannot get the product in stores so it is worth checking.

To find your local Aldi you can use the store locator tool on the website.

We checked to see if any other supermarkets are currently stocking the London Cheesecake and could not find it anywhere else online.

However, it might be worth keeping an eye out in the fresh bakery section on your next supermarket visit as you might get lucky.

Also, some local independent bakeries might stock the product too so it could be worth giving them a call if you want to get your hands on one.

Some people in the comments mentioned that it might be possible to get the item from Greggs but others said they had tried and had no luck.

We might have the answer to this and it might come as a disappointment to some Northerners hoping to get their hands on a “Hairy Mary”.

Not all stores across the country are made equal when it comes to Greggs products and we have a full list of what can be found where when it comes to regional offerings.

The London cheesecake is one of the items that fall into the regional category so you will need to check the full list to find out where you can get your hands on one.

Meanwhile, other sweet-toothed shoppers are gearing up for Easter and stocking up on some bargain treats.

One Cadbury egg that is available in B&M has chocoholics going wild and even tempting some people who don’t usually buy Easter eggs.

Also, one major supermarket has slashed the price of its large Easter eggs, and is the cheapest around at the moment.

We have also been getting in the mood for Easter and conducting a few taste tests to find out which tasty dupes are worth it if you want to save a bit of cash.
