MICROSOFT’S Windows 11 update is slowing down some computers days after it launched to users across the globe.

According to chip-making giant AMD, PCs running on its processors are up to 15 per cent slower following the release of the new operating system.

The result is reduced performance in some applications when used with the new operating system.

AMD says that esports gaming titles are among the apps worst hit by the fault, with a 15 per cent reduction in performance.

However, the performance impact on most affected apps is between three and five per cent.

The California-based manufacturer says it is working with Microsoft to resolve the issue.

It’s likely PCs running Windows 11 on AMD chips will be back up and running at full capacity following a software update in the coming days.

AMD computers are designed for gaming, meaning even a small performance dip can have a heavy impact on usability.

The faults affect every Ryzen CPU supported in Windows 11.

That means all Zen+, Zen 2 and Zen 3 CPUs that comprise the Ryzen 2000, Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 4000, and Ryzen 5000 processors.

Also impacted are select AMD EPYC processors for data centres, along with a handful of newer Athlon chips.

Windows 11 launched on October 4 – a day earlier than Microsoft’s planned release date.

Windows is one of the world’s most popular operating systems.

In fact, Windows 10 is already running on billions of machines globally despite being just a few years old.

Windows 11 replaces it, bringing new features and a redesigned look that’s far cleaner.

The next-gen operating system launched on October 4 to a selection of more powerful PC models.

Microsoft has said that all eligible devices will be able to upgrade by the middle of 2022.
