AMAZON’S Alexa is in the homes of millions, largely because of the virtual assistant’s uncanny ability to be able to understand us humans.
Communication of both sides is fairly easy, but sometimes it can be hard for people to understand Alexa’s native language: colourful, flashing lights.

Why is my Alexa flashing yellow?
Flashing yellow or amber is often a warning sign.
But according to Amazon, “A flashing yellow light on your Echo device means that you have a notification or a message from an Alexa contact.”
How do I stop my Alexa from blinking yellow?
To make your Alexa light stop flashing yellow, simply ask it: “What notifications do I have?”
Or try, “What messages do I have?”
If that doesn’t work, you should check your Alexa app to see if there is an update for your notification settings.
If there is, downloading it will make Alexa stop blinking.
What do all the colours on an Alexa mean?
- Blue: Your Alexa device is listening to or responding to a voice command.
- Yellow: You have a message, reminder, or notification alert.
- Green: You are receiving a call or Drop In.
- Purple: Usually, this indicates Do Not Disturb mode.
- White: This signals volume changes or that Alexa Guard is switching to Away mode.
- Orange: Your device is in setup mode or trying to connect to the internet.
- Red: Alexa’s in-built microphones and/or a camera are deactivated. Or, it means that an Echo can’t access the internet
