Alongside Halifix, BarclaysHSBC and Lloyds also plan to shut up shop on a number of branches too.

The information comes from LINK, the UK’s largest cash machine network, which reveals when the closures are planned for.

Barclays is set to close 22 branches in April while HSBC is closing 11 and Lloyds half a dozen.

Natwest is closing six branches while Nationwide is getting rid of one branch for good.

What can I do if my bank closes?

As customers transition from in-person to online banking, several branches have had to shut a few branches to accommodate for the change.

But it can mean those without access to a computer or mobile phone are stuck without one near them.

But don’t worry if this is you – there are a few ways to get around it.

Firstly, switching banks to one nearer you is an option.

You can do this via the Current Account Switch Service (CASS), which is free to use.

You just have to join the new bank and they will handle the switch for you, given they are signed up to the service.

There are some steps you can take before switching though, such as choosing your switch date, or organising transferring your old bank statements to your new account.

To get your old statements you should get in touch with your bank.

Some banks offer new customers switching bonuses to make the swap too – so you can earn yourself some free cash.

If you don’t want to switch banks, you can use Post Office branches to carry out most basic banking tasks.

But bear in mind you won’t be able to open a new bank account or take out personal loans and mortgages.

Some banks offer customers mobile banking services too.
