It would allow you to link your WhatsApp account to another iPhone or Android device.

This is great if you want to look at chats on a secondary smartphone without needing an active internet connection on your main handset.

Early screenshots have been revealed by WABetaInfo, a website notorious for revealing upcoming WhatsApp features.

It’s not clear when – and if – owners Meta plan to make it available, but their latest move suggests Companion Mode is beyond an exploratory idea.

WhatsApp is making it even harder for nosey friends to read through your messages

We first heard that a limited number of beta testers were trying it out in November.

Now it’s apparently been rolled out to even more users.

While the feature will be useful, people will have to be extra careful.

If the second device falls into the wrong hands, your private messages could be at risk.

Though we’ll have to wait until it’s properly released to everyone to see if WhatsApp manages to sort out some kind of security mechanism to avoid any dangers.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.

Joining the WhatsApp beta on iOS for iPhone is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
