WHATSAPP has a clever trick that only iPhone users can access – for now.
The exclusive “blur tool” is currently only available on iPhone.
It’s been around on iPhone for a while, but is now finally expected to come to Android soon too.
The feature lets you blur parts of images directly through WhatsApp.
This is handy if you want to hide some sensitive info on a document, or conceal a part of a photo.
Maybe you want to hide a gift in the background of a shot, or your credit card info.
Whatever the case, iPhone owners can easily blur their images through WhatsApp.
Now the sleuths at WABetaInfo have uncovered evidence that the feature is also in development for Android too.
The blog regularly digs into the WhatsApp beta, a test version of the app used to test new features.
And there’s now a glimpse of the feature in the new WhatsApp beta version 2.22.7.1.
Head to the bottom of this article to find out how to join the WhatsApp beta.
We also reveal how to use the blur feature on iPhone.
How to blur images on WhatsApp for iPhone
First, go into a WhatsApp chat and add a photo – like you would normally when you’re sending it.
Then the photo editor will appear.
Now tap the pen icon in the top right corner, and drag the slider down until you hit a mosaic pattern.
You’ve done it right if the mosaic pattern appears around the pen in the top-right corner.
Now you can pixellate any part of the image that you want by dragging your finger over it.
You can also slide further down that scale to access a black-and-white feature that completely drains the colour from areas of the photo.
How to join the WhatsApp beta
To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.
Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.
Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.
Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
Joining the WhatsApp beta on iPhone is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
