YOUR WhatsApp is about to get a big change – and it’s fantastic news for anyone in an annoying group chat.

Group conversations are really useful, but sometimes they can be a royal pain.

Maybe it’s a chat that’s old but keeps being revived, one that has too many people, or a conversation that’s very active but you simply don’t care.

Some of these group chats you’d probably like to leave.

But sadly when you drop out, everyone is alerted – making a quiet exit impossible.

Thankfully WhatsApp is working to fix that, as revealed by the sleuths at WABetaInfo.

The tech analysts have mined the “beta” test version of WhatsApp to uncover a new feature “under development”.

It’s the ability to silently exit groups.

This means that when you leave a group, almost no one will know.

The only people who find out are group admins – the people running the chat.

There’s one version of this feature that also lets you view past participants in a chat.

So you could still be exposed potentially, although the feature could ultimately change.

Sadly it’s impossible to say exactly when WhatsApp will drop this big app update.

It could take days, weeks or months – and could even be scrapped entirely if WhatsApp owner Meta isn’t happy with it.

In the meantime, if you want to try all of the latest WhatsApp features first, consider joining the beta using our guide below.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
