THE four-year wait is over for Halo fans after the new game, Halo Infinite Campaign is released on Wednesday, December 8.

Development delays were announced over a year ago due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, amongst other factors.

When does Halo Infinite Campaign come out?

The newest game in the Halo-verse, Halo Infinite Campaign, is being released today, at 1pm ET for PC, Xbox, or via the cloud.

Halo Infinite Campaign was set a new release date in August 2020 due to development delays and fans were eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Fans are not able to pre-download the campaign section of the game and depending on their internet speed and capabilities, this will determine how quickly they’ll be able to dive into the game.

Why did it take so long for the game to be released?

The original creator of Halo sold the rights to 343 Industries after the release of the third game, allowing for the new creator to delve into games four and five.

The company recognized they made mistakes in the two games resulting in an unfamiliarity for fans who said the first three games were far superior.

This time around, the game makers said they wanted to get it right, but that meant Halo Infinite was in the making for more than four years.

Founder of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross, said the game wasn’t coming together, resulting in the delays.

“We had all the puzzle pieces on the floor,” she told Polygon in an interview. “But we didn’t have the puzzle put together.”

The Covid-19 pandemic created complications for the creation of Halo Infinite as those working on the game had to begin doing so remotely.

The narrative director for Halo Infinite, Paul Crocker said, “It’s not an excuse, but it’s worth remembering the time everyone was under at that point.

“There was a world pandemic. People hadn’t seen each other for six months. We were reviewing things over the internet. You know, it obviously wasn’t great.”

In August 2020, 343 Industries officially announced the game would be delayed until December 8, 2021.

Although fans were disappointed, multiplayer director Tom French said they needed to not only focus on creating the game, but also on the team’s health.

“It was a lot of complexity managing all that from home,” he said.

“But I think we’ve done a good job balancing the team’s health on top of shipping a game that we’re all super proud and excited about.”

What is Halo Infinite Campaign?

This first-person video game will bring the player into an adventure in which fate and hope for the future are at stake.

Master Chief will embark on an expedition to the Halo ring to explore the perimeter and fight his most deadly foe.

Fans can expect side quests that will test their character’s ability to fight their foes and discover the landscape and terrain.

The Halo games are intended to be around for a long time, and the former Infinite director Chris Lee said this game is intended to pave the way for future Halo games.

“Halo Infinite is the start of our platform for the future,” he said.

“We want Infinite to grow over time, versus going to those numbered titles and having all that segmentation that we had before. It’s really about creating Halo Infinite as the start of the next 10 years for Halo and then building that as we go with our fans and community.”
