Castle Donington has a Derbyshire postcode and is next to what was formerly known as Nottingham East Midlands Airport, but the village is actually in Leicestershire.

Sharon Conroy claimed it was almost three years before she realised what county she was living in.

“There’s the Derbyshire postcode, so when I moved here seven years ago it was probably two or three years before I realised it was actually Leicestershire,” the 56-year-old told LeicestershireLive.

“I lived in the Loughborough area before and I thought I’d moved to a new county. But I was still here. It’s an amazing place. It’s really friendly and that’s the most important thing.”

Polly Pound, 43, who works with Sharon at a local gift shop, said Castle Donington is ‘a town near Derby’.

Stuart Ferguson, 72, concluded he felt ‘like we’re in the middle of nowhere’, while Bruce Townsend, 92, said he didn’t ‘think of this as being Leicestershire’.

Caroline Travers added: “I used to live here – having a Derbyshire postcode but living in Leicestershire.

“There are often these discussions on local Facebook groups about which county Donington is really in.”
