The “internal error” resulted in either only partial or no funds at all being taken from their accounts.

Over the past few weeks, numerous customers complained about the issue, many of those via the Virgin Media’s Community Forums.

Many customers only noticed the issue for the first time when they got a prompt that showed how they hadn’t paid their previous bill.

Virgin Media had warned affected customers – who were oblivious as they hadn’t done anything wrong – about the risk of service restrictions if they didn’t cough up.

But thankfully a quick complaint to the operator’s support staff is often all that was required to resolve the issue.

The error is said to have been caused by an internal system error which was resolved earlier this month, reports ISpreview.

Virgin Media declined to confirm precisely how many people had been impacted,

But the company said that some were billed less than they should have been.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “We apologise to the small number of customers who were recently billed less than their usual amount.

“This was caused by a system error which has now been fixed.

“Impacted customers will see the remaining unpaid balance carried forward to their next bill, and they are encouraged to contact our customer service teams who will be able to support them, including through offering payment plans if that would be helpful.”

It comes as Virgin Media TV customers have received a bunch of new perks, including the addition of free streaming app Pluto TV on all 360 and Stream boxes.

It follows a seven-channel boost earlier this month, where customers were given access to Sky Kids, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr and Nicktoons for the entire month, free of charge.

The network provider has issued new firmware updates (v5.04 and v5.05) for both Virgin TV 360 and Stream platforms.

But last month Virgin Media recently confirmed that it will be hiking prices next year for millions of broadband customers.

The provider has said costs will rise in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation.

On top of that, prices will also go up an additional 3.9% from next year.

Bills will remain the same up until 2024 so you won’t see your bill change until then.
