WHATSAPP fans who love to chat via their desktop are set to get a great new feature to keep snoopers away.

For years you could add a password onto your WhatsApp iOS and Android app for an extra layer of security.

But desktop was left open – until now.

Leaked screenshots suggest WhatsApp is finally bringing a similar tool whenever you connect from a computer.

It’ll be particularly handy for anyone who shares a machine with other people.

According to WABetaInfo who revealed the development, the password is needed every time the user opens the app up on their desktop device.

It’s thought that the feature will be optional, so you’ll have to switch it on yourself to benefit when it launches.

WABetaInfo also claims that the password won’t shared with WhatsApp, instead it’s saved locally.

“In case you lose the password, you need to log out of the app and log into WhatsApp Desktop again by linking your device with the QR code,” the site said.

As this is from a beta test build of WhatsApp, there’s no telling when bosses will roll out the new security option – if at all.

How to get WhatsApp beta

To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.

Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.

Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.

Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
