Shares of eyewear maker Warby Parker Inc. are set to begin trading Wednesday morning, in a direct listing that will test the market appeal of the direct-to-consumer brand.

The New York Stock Exchange set a reference price of $40 a share, which is simply a guidepost to where it could open.
