ONLINE retailer Very is celebrating Christmas early as it has launched its festive advert with 74 days to go.

It is the first major brand to kick off its Christmas campaign, and this year it’s focusing on celebrating all the events building up to the big day.

The 40-second film is soundtracked by Wizzard’s universally-loved Christmas classic “I wish it could be Christmas every day”.

It features a family’s multiple festive occasions, celebrating how Christmas is so much more than just one day.

The advert opens with a family excitedly opening presents together.

“Christmas isn’t just one day, it’s lots of days”, says the mum.

From putting up their decorations in autumn, through to “work Christmas”, “birthday Christmas” to “kids-free Christmas”, it follows the family through each occasion.

Each scene is donned with outfits, toys and gifts all available from Very.

At the end of the film, the on-screen text controversially encourages customers to buy now and pay back later using VeryPay.

This same message did not appear in the 2021 ad, and is likely due to so many households struggling with the cost of living.

Christmas is always a really expensive time but this year with rising energy bills and food prices, a lot of families are feeling the pinch.

BNPL services can be handy for essential purchases and certain shopping, but it’s important to be aware of the risks.

While VeryPay is regulated by the FCA, other services aren’t yet regulated meaning consumers don’t have the same legal protections as using credit cards if there are any payment issues.

Likewise, any complaints cannot be taken to the independent financial ombudsman as they can with a bank or credit card provider.

Instead, issues have to be worked out with the individual company.

The advert has arrived a week later than it did last year, being posted on YouTube on October 7.

Last year the company emphasised getting ready early and dropped the ad on October 1.

The cheery ad featured carollers alongside confused trick or treaters who are given mince pies instead of sweets.

Commenters on YouTube have been quick to criticise the timing of the film’s release.

One said: “IT’S OCTOBER WE HAVEN’T EVEN HAD HALLOWEEN YET!!”

Another wrote: “I will never buy anything from Very as long as they advertise in October for Xmas.

“It is ruining Christmas. Please stop.”

Not everyone was dismayed though, one man said: “Makes me want to put the tree up tomorrow.”

While another wrote: “Am I complaining about there being a Christmas advert in October…..NO LET IT BE CHRISTMAS.”
